Throughout this year we’ve seen the power of grassroots organizations fighting for change within their communities, whether it be organizing mutual aid drives to care for those most impacted by COVID-19, encouraging friends and neighbors to vote, or knocking down the systemic barriers that prevent people of color from accessing opportunity. Here at Postmates, we have been inspired by the important, powerful work of these organizations. We always aim to amplify those making progress in the communities we serve, as we do through our paid volunteer program and our partnership with Feed Hero Nurses. Now we’re going one step further.

Meet Fleetanthropy: a new initiative that puts the power of giving in the hands of the Fleet members who are on the ground—our couriers. Through this effort, Fleet members can nominate local nonprofit organizations that are advancing social justice causes and addressing structural inequities in their communities. Postmates will then make donations and provide volunteer assistance or technical support to select nominated organizations to deepen their impact. From groups that train formerly incarcerated people in technical trades to ones that help set up our young people for success, we’re gearing up to send resources to organizations making a difference in the neighborhoods in which our Fleet members live and work.  Our vision is to support a network of local, justice-oriented groups and foster those relationships so that together, we can make our communities more equitable and inclusive for all.

The idea behind Fleetanthropy came from our Fleet Advisory Board (FAB), a group of top-performing couriers who elevate the Fleet’s voice to company leaders. Since its inception in 2018, the FAB has been a crucial resource for Postmates as we grow our services and improve the ways in which we support the people who power our platform. The FAB was especially helpful this year, informing our company-wide efforts to  fight systemic racial injustice and grow our efforts to make our platform more diverse and inclusive. For instance, we worked with the FAB to outline several suggestions for supporting our Black merchant partners, workers, and customers.

We cannot do our work without strong communities where everyone—no matter their race or background—feels safe and capable of pursuing their dreams. That’s why we’re so proud to bring Fleetanthropy to life and support the grassroots groups that are doing the difficult, often thankless work of building a future that is better and brighter for us all.
