World Food Day: Our Actions Are Our Future

Each year on October 16th, World Food Day is celebrated to honor the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations back in 1945. A different theme is adopted each year for this day to target specific areas where action is needed. This year’s theme for World Food Day is: “Our Actions Are Our Future. Healthy Diets For A #Zerohunger World.”

Postmates is demonstrating our commitment to this year’s World Food Day theme through our food waste initiative, ‘FoodFight!’. With the simple press of a button, restaurants who partner with Postmates have the opportunity to send leftover food to local agencies. Since its launch in October of 2018, FoodFight! has helped restaurants divert more than 40,000 pounds of food from landfills to people who need it in over 35 different cities nationwide.

We recognize ending world hunger is a tremendous issue that cannot be tackled alone. More than 820 million people go to bed hungry every night. That is why we support organizations that are leaders in the field and provide real solutions to food insecurity around the world. This year we decided to contribute to The Adventure Project. This is a nonprofit with a vision to move people out of poverty through the creation of jobs. The Adventure Project equips men and women with the tools and training to help them rise out of poverty.

Small farmers produce about 70% of crops globally. Investing in smallholder farmers is a crucial way to increase food security. This is why Postmates is sponsoring two farmers and their families for an entire year so they can receive the training and supplies they need to increase their crop yield and grow their business. We hope that you will join us in supporting this organization and the incredible work they are doing worldwide.
