How do I use Postmates?

Postmates is a beautiful app that is extremely simple to use, available on iOS and Android. You can order items for delivery in 1 of 2 ways:

  1. Select a place from the Featured Stores list on the home screen.
  2. Search for a specific restaurant, store or cuisine by tapping on the search icon at the top of the screen and entering your query.

Once you've chosen a store, select the items you'd like to have delivered. If there is a menu, you can simply check off the items you want. And if there's no menu, you can write a shopping list in the "Add a custom order" field.

When can I use Postmates?

Postmates is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

What cities is Postmates available in?

Postmates is currently available in the San Francisco Bay Area (San Francisco, East Bay, South Bay), New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Seattle, Austin, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, San Diego, Denver, Las Vegas and Orange County. We will be expanding to more cities very soon.

What can I have delivered with Postmates?

If it's an item in a store or restaurant in your city, we can deliver it. Get pizza from your favorite neighborhood joint, donuts from across town, new sneakers from Nike, an iphone charger from the Apple Store, prescriptions from the pharmacy, you name it.

Who makes the deliveries?

We call our couriers, Postmates. Postmates are personally onboarded by our Operations team to complete deliveries in your city. When your delivery is accepted, you are immediately introduced to your Postmate with a photo, details on how many deliveries they have made and their current rating.

Is everyone on a bike?

Postmates are actually on bikes, in cars, on scooters, and in trucks.

How much does it cost?

Delivery fees start at $5 and are determined by the distance from pick-up to drop-off, and the capacity of the platform. Additionally, a 9% service fee is applied to the purchase price of your items.

What is Blitz Pricing?

Blitz Pricing indicates demand is higher than normal, and deliveries will cost a little more during these peak times. This increased pricing creates a strong financial incentive for Postmates to make themselves available when you need them the most. We will always be transparent when blitz pricing is active. You'll have to click through and accept the higher delivery price to place an order.

How do you decide who accepts my delivery?

Deliveries are immediately assigned to the best possible Postmate. There is no "waiting" or "bidding" process. Our dispatch algorithm accounts for several different factors such as vehicle type, rating and more, to determine which Postmate is best suited for your job.

Can I request a specific Postmate?

You cannot request a specific Postmate at this time. We will always dispatch to the best Postmate for the job, ensuring your delivery arrives as quickly as possible.

What if I need to contact my Postmate?

You can call your Postmate at any point during your delivery, directly from the app.

Does Postmates deliver to commercial addresses?

Absolutely. We will deliver to your home, office, the middle of the park or even the hospital delivery room. Just be sure to enter a detailed description of the drop off location and our Postmates will find you.

What do I do if I need to edit my pick-up or drop-off address?

If you have not placed your order yet, you can edit the drop-off directly from the check-out page. Click the “deliver to” box and you'll be prompted to enter a new drop-off address.

If you've already placed your order and need to change the pick-up and/or drop-off, you can call your Postmate directly from the app. He/she will notify HQ so that we can adjust the delivery price if necessary.

What if I need to change my order, or add an item?

Call your Postmate as soon as you realize you need to change the order. Depending on when the changes are requested, your delivery may take longer than the allotted 1 hour.

Is tip required? Where does that money go?

Tip is not required. 100% goes to your Postmate for their effort on the delivery. If you would like to leave a tip, you are given the opportunity to add 5%, 10%, 15% or 20% of the order to your total on the check-out screen before you sign your name.

Can I tip my Postmate with cash?

No. Tips are only accepted through the app during check-out.

How do you hire your Postmates?

All Postmates are thoroughly vetted, including a background check, in-person interview and test jobs.

Can I apply to become a Postmate?

What if my delivery takes longer than 1 hour?

If your delivery takes longer than 1 hour, we will e-mail or call you to follow-up. If it's late due to our own error, we may refund the delivery cost.

Can I have alcohol delivered?

Yes, you can in SF, NYC, DC, LA, Chicago, Miami and San Diego. It's a beautiful thing. We're working on it in other cities... stay tuned!

Can I send items to someone in a different city from where I am located?

No, not yet. Currently you can only place orders based on your geolocation, so you cannot send items to someone in another city. However, we are working on adding this capability.

Can I get items from Craigslist delivered?

We can only deliver a purchase from Craigslist if you have already paid the seller or If the person you are purchasing from will accept a credit card. We will not pay cash for an item off Craigslist and we cannot pick up cash from you and then retrieve the item.
