Papua New Guinea Peaberry - Kimel Estate Coffee
Medium roast. Peaberries are the result of when the coffee fruit develops a single oval bean instead of the usual pair of flat-sided beans. Most peaberries (including the Tanzanian peaberry) produce a lighter, brighter cup than normal beans. Since peaberries have to be sorted out of much larger batches, they typically have a much higher standard. Grown at the Kimel estate, these beans are harvested by their workforce of 432 people. They are provided housing, schooling for their children, and medical facilities for them and their dependents. The estate gets its name from the Kimel river, which it draws water used for the wet mill.
