La Grange de Piaugier Côtes du Rhône 2015 France

Chateau Combel-la Serre "Le Pur Fruit Causse" Cahors 2016 France

That's a lot of words that don't sound very familiar, except maybe France. But "Cahors" is the birth place of Malbec. Yes, Malbec. The Frenchies have been making it for years; you may have even had it in some of the Bordeauxs you've tasted in the past. It's usually a little lighter and leaner, but this version rivals that of the Argentine stuff. It's darker, purple tasting, and heavy just like their Southern brethren.

Les Deux Moulins Pinot Noir Loire Valley 2016 France

There is this business called Paris Wine Company that imports a bunch of wine to the United States. And those kinds of import businesses get to a certain point and say, "Let's make some delicious wine that we would want to drink on a regular basis that doesn't break the bank." The Deux Moulin series is the brain child of that idea. The grapes come from a prestigious area in the Loire Valley, but they get a great deal to pass on the savings. It's high quality for a low price.

4 Hundred "Junker Chardonnay" Santa Barbara County 2017 California

Another delicious addition to the "In Association with" program. We like to team up with our good friends from all over California to create wines that we want to drink. This chard isn't the oaky, buttery end of the spectrum. It's lighter on it's feet with some citrus tang that will make any white wine drinker go, "Wait, this is Chard??" The artwork on the label is done by none other than Eric Junker who is our favorite local artist.

There is no fining. There is no filtering. There are no sulfites added (except when absolutely necessary). The chardonnay they create is super bright, minerally, and appley. It's so refreshing and so done right.

Jewel of Russia

When we think of this vodka, we think smooth. Smooth like freshly sanded wood. Smooth like the ice hockey rink after the zamboni has gone around 2 times. Smooth like your boyfriend coming over to your parents house for the first time with fresh flowers, a badass bottle of vodka, and kissing your mother on the hand while bowing at the waste saying, "Is that a Bosendorfer grand piano you have in the parlor?" Or "Is that 'Garcon a la Pipe' hanging above the mantel?." This vodka is like that.

Reyka Vodka

Small batch is one of those terms that gets thrown around a lot. One can never really tell if they are getting something truly "hand-crafted" and "small production." I can tell you, though, the people over at Reyka make small batch stuff. And it's not just small production, it tastes really good. Their master distiller is a local fireman and policeman for goodness sake. Talk about good people making good products.

Whiskey

Akashi Japanese Whiskey

Originally a sake producer, the White Oak distillery obtained their whisky license in 1919. The distillery is located in the city of Akashi in the neighborhood of Eigashima on the shore of Seto inland sea just west of Kobe, an area with a mild, stable climate. Crafted from 70% corn, 30% lightly peated, crisp UK malt and natural spring water, Eigashima Shuzo "Akashi" White Oak Aged Japanese Whisky is distilled in their custom built lantern shaped copper pot still and aged in mostly ex-bourbon barrels and finished in sherry casks. The resulting spirit is soft and approachable with aromas of black cherry and vanilla with subtle undertones of malt, oak and roasted nuts.

Rittenhouse Straight Rye Whiskey

This is really a flavor bomb. Where some ryes tend too much towards the citrus and delicate flavors of the rye, this is a much more robust and richer flavor, speaking of Heaven Hill’s bourbon heritage. But make no mistake, this is still a rye whiskey, not a bourbon. The rye is present, but it is followed with vanilla, butterscotch and ripe bananas. It is surprisingly creamy on the tongue for a rye whiskey as well.

Henry McKenna Single Barrel 10yr Bourbon

The bouquet features smells of Corinthian leather, breakfast cereal, cornmeal, pepper and hemp. Entry is nicely sweet and intensely grainy; the midpalate is the high point as the taste profile expands to include semisweet flavors of caramel corn, toasted marshmallow, dried fruit and chocolate covered cherry. Concludes oaky sweet and chewy.

Michter's Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

American distilling is such an interesting thing. If we think about the fact that there was a time in US history that people were not allowed to drink. It just seems unfathomable. What's crazier is that many of these distilleries survived this era. Michter's had somehwat of a tulmultuous past of changing hands many times, being under different names, and ultimately being in strange financial positions. But now! Now, Michter's is one of the best there is. It is the golden standard for price and quality.

Rum

Rhum J.M White Rum

Rhum J.M. Blanc is the youngest rhum agricole in their line. It is rested in stainless steel tanks for four months before being cut down to 80-proof and bottled. This makes for a very fresh rhum that is clearly an agricultural product: funky apples and pears, alcohol, a wisp of vanilla, citrus, which becomes slightly less intense with water, light sugar cane sweetness up front, apples and raspberries mid-palate, shifting to citrus and the funky apples and pears near the back, which also becomes a bit softer with water.

St George Terroir Gin

St. George has been distilling delicious alcoholic beverages since 1982. To put that in perspective, it's one of the first small distilleries established since the age of prohibition. They've survived all of these years because they make honest, tasty products that go above and beyond. Terroir is particularly interesting because the botanicals they use are all from Northern California. It's piney, sagey, and kind of citrusy. It's magical.

It's that London Dry vibe that slays in a G&T and also tastes damn good on its own.

A lot of us have had the amaros from around the world, but Amaro Angeleno is a little different. They create spirits of "place." Linie Aquavit Norway

Linie is the oldest aquavit brand in the world. It's sort of like a gin, but not really. What makes it cool and special is that it was discovered by accident. The Nordic people sent some of the original, not so great tasting stuff on a trip across the ocean for trade. The recipient was not please, so it was sent back home to Norway and it was discovered that it tasted better after the long journey across sea in barrel! So now, every batch of this stuff takes a long journey on the ocean to temper and create new flavor.
