Postmates Applauds Senate Introduction to Protect Gig Workers With Portable Safety Net

“Postmates has long called for a more comprehensive approach to protecting and empowering independent workers, and the COVID-19 crisis has made it all the more clear that the independent workers who keep our economy moving need a better deal. With millions of Americans turning to flexible work to make ends meet, it is critical that lawmakers consider how to protect independent workers with a stronger safety net while preserving their ability to work when and how they choose.

“That’s why Postmates applauds Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) and Representative Suzan DelBene (D-WA) for introducing legislation that would provide states with funds to create portable benefits programs and modernize unemployment technology systems. Their proposal reflects the kind of leadership and innovation we need to bring the structures that support workers into the 21st Century. We urge Congress to build on their recent actions of extending benefits to self-employed workers and include the proposed legislation in the next COVID-19 relief passage.”
