The Postmates Family Speaks Out About PRIDE — Demanding Equality For All
Postmates has always believed in the equal dignity of all persons. No matter your gender, immigration status, sexual orientation or ethnicity — love is love is love is love. To help show our support for the LGBTQ community, we asked our fleet and merchants one simple question: What does Pride mean to you?
The response? The resounding sentiment was that Pride is love.
We are proud of our partners like Coolhaus, Cake and Art, and Cafe Gratitude — who join us in vocalizing the importance of keeping their doors open to all. We are equally proud of the diverse members of the Postmates fleet — such as Jesse Medina who identified as a woman while serving in the U.S. military.
We know that sharing your stories takes courage. We’re proud of you and feel honored that some of you chose to share your journey with us.
But though we’ve made progress, there is still more work to be done. On the heels of divisive rhetoric from our leaders, and the Supreme Court’s recent ruling in the Masterpiece case — which empowers a local baker to discriminate against a couple on the grounds of whom they love, we believe that promoting policies of equality and celebrating stories of solidarity must be met with the fierce urgency of now. That’s why we’re taking a stand with our merchants, our Postmates fleet, our customers, our small business owners, our veterans, and our brothers and sisters, to say simply: no matter your race, color, creed, or cake craving — we stand with you.
To help ensure we stand with the LGBTQ community, we encourage all of our customers to get involved and donate to organizations like the ACLU.
To show our support, we’ll be donating $2 to the ACLU for every order placed in the Drinks or Bakery category, during LA, SF, and NYC Pride weekends. To donate order from our Bakery or Drinks category today — Sunday. We’ll then do our part and donate $2 to the ACLU per order. Your donation will better enable the ACLU to protect the LGBTQ community.
As reiterated by our CEO Bastian Lehmann — “At Postmates we choose everyone. We will always stand for love. We will always stand for progress. And when laws aim to deny our neighbors the right to dignity, decency or the ability to feel comfortable in one’s own skin — we will always use our voice, our product, our justice system, and partnership with groups like the ACLU, to fight for inclusivity and a more perfect union. While recent court cases may cast doubt on the strides we’ve made as a people, now more than ever we stand tall in declaring, without hesitation, that we will always stand for love.”
